Henry has longed for this day, his bride had wished to keep herself pure for her wedding night. And unlike with his first wife, Henry had no doubt nor any reason to doubt that she was in fact pure, that he would be not only first her husband but her first lover. Certainly he had stolen a kiss or two in the time since his proposal and their wedding day.
A day which is finally hurt, a day which has the young King awake at an earlier than usual hour. A new vigor in his step, that charming smile graced his handsome face and lit the room as his pages saw to his needs. Once fed and dressed he was brought from his chambers to where his bride awaited.
The hall was filled to capacity, the people of England as in love with their soon to be Queen as their young King was. They had seen a change in him that had brought them to love their Sovereign more deeply and they all knew it had to do with the beauty which held his heart true.
There she stood, at the front, her back to him as her long golden hair flowed like the softest of silk, longer than any train. Hair he longed to run his hands through, to breath in the scent of. He knew not how he would make it through the ceremony and festivities. The moment he saw her, even from behind all he wanted was to be alone with her.
As Henry came for the room bowed, when he stepped up beside her he turned his gaze to her and her alone.
"My love, you are the truest vision of beauty our eyes have ever seen."
Rapunzel was certain that she'd never seen a more beautiful sunrise than the one marking the dawn of her wedding day. Even on a normal day she tended to rise before the sun, but on this morning in particular she found herself restless well before the rest of the kingdom would wake, save for the common folk and the palace staff busy with the final preparations.
To think that the day was finally upon them... even as she stood waiting for Henry to arrive she could scarcely believe it. The past four months almost felt like a dream, or like the events she might have read in one of her novels. There was hardly a day when she and Henry had been apart, and with each passing hour she became more certain of their future together. Though the negotiations had not been concluded until a full month had gone by the couple had wasted no time. While Henry went about courting her in earnest Rapunzel took it upon herself to learn all that she could of her future home, of her future lord husband and his people. She loved it best when Henry himself was able to teach her, and just as they'd already had many enlightening discussions before Rapunzel was already looking forward to the many that they might have in the future. And not just talks, but much and more, more dances, more meals together, more stolen moments, and many, many firsts. The mere thought of such bright, bountiful possibilities was enough to chase away any nerves she might have had otherwise.
Those in attendance could probably see it as well for it was simply impossible to keep the excitement from those vivid green eyes. If it was true that love enhanced one's own natural beauty then Rapunzel surely must have been the fairest in the kingdom on this day, practically glowing with all the devotion that she had for him. The onlookers must have noticed, the hall filled with hushed but excited murmurs. The atmosphere was one of anticipation and Rapunzel was once more moved by the kindness she had been shown, as well as that which the King's subjects had already for their ruler. She never imagined it possible to feel so at home in a foreign land, but somehow she felt as welcomed here as she would on the streets of Corona.
When at last the sounds of the doors parting reached the ears of those present, and footfalls announced the King's arrival Rapunzel felt her heart leap in her chest. Nervous? No, but rather fit to burst with joy. Her gaze turned as Henry joined her at the front of the hall and in her eyes he'd find his answer even before she spoke in return, her face somewhat flushed.
"This I owe to you, and the love I have for you... You make me the happiest woman in the world today, truly."
